Numpad Remapper Use your numpad as a left-hand input device. Windows x64 Portable Edition — User Guide Open Numpad Remapper.exe in the root folder for normal startup with conversion OFF. Keep the App folder with it. See LICENSE.txt in the root folder for the license terms. Japanese: Guide.ja.txt Data storage and information supplied for support: Privacy.en.txt / Privacy.ja.txt License terms: ..\LICENSE.txt Original third-party licenses and notices: ..\App\Licenses\NOTICES.txt 1. What the app does Assign physical numpad keys for creative work. One source key maps to one output key; multiple mapped source keys may be held together. Manage common and application-specific assignments within profiles. Assignments follow the foreground registered application. Conversion OFF passes ordinary input. When ON, conversion depends on the application-specific and common settings and whether the input destination can be determined safely. 2. Requirements and extraction For standard users on Windows 10/11 x64. Requires Windows build 19041 or later. Run as a standard user. Administrator applications, other users, login screens, secure desktops, games and anti-cheat environments are outside the guarantee scope. The required runtime is included. You do not need to install the runtime or fonts separately. Extract the entire ZIP to a new folder on the local drive of the PC where you will use it. Use the complete extracted folder. Startup from a network folder is not supported. Keep the entire folder, including App and Documents, together. Missing or changed files cause verification to reject startup. Display requirements A working area of at least 636 x 340 DIPs is required, excluding the taskbar and other reserved areas. DIPs are logical units that account for Windows display scaling. This means at least 636 x 340 physical pixels at 100% scaling, or 1272 x 680 at 200%. This is not the display's full resolution. If the area is too small or cannot be determined, the app shows a notice and exits before conversion starts. Check the display connection and display conditions. The startup window size is also its minimum size. On narrower displays, the keypad and assignments appear vertically; scroll the assignment area to reach its controls. 3. First startup and enabling conversion Release all keys and open Numpad Remapper.exe in the root folder. Opening the EXE without arguments also selects normal mode, initially with conversion OFF. Turn NumLock ON, check the profile, registered application and assignments, then explicitly select Conversion ON. Check the assigned result first in a document or window where it will not affect your work. Save your work beforehand. For a settings-only mode that does not start the input feature, use the command or shortcut argument: "Numpad Remapper.exe" --settings. It allows editing and saving but cannot enable conversion. To switch to conversion, use Exit App to exit completely, then open Numpad Remapper.exe. If startup is refused or a conversion-stop notice appears, follow its instructions. 4. Profiles, applications and copying assignments Select a profile and edit its common settings or a registered application's assignments. Register the target application to use dedicated assignments. Check that the registration corresponds to the application you actually use for foreground switching. Within the same profile, select the source application, open the menu at the right of its heading and choose the assignment-copy command. Select another registered application and paste the assignments. When confirmation is required, review the changes and choose the replace-and-paste command. Cancelling makes no change. Pasting replaces the complete dedicated assignment set, including unassigned keys. Common settings, other applications and other profiles are preserved. You cannot paste into common settings, the same source application or another profile. The copy reflects the moment it was made, is replaced by the next copy and is cleared when the app exits. It does not use the OS clipboard. Copying an empty set also clears all dedicated assignments at the destination to their unchanged state; read the confirmation warning. A target application's update may change its executable identity. Register the new version separately with the add-application command and copy assignments from the old registration. You may retain the old registration. The relink-to-updated-application command is an optional way to change the old registration's target. 5. Hiding, restoring, stopping and exiting Open settings from the three-line menu at the upper right. The window close button hides the app in the tray. Minimizing uses the normal taskbar. Neither changes Conversion ON/OFF. Restore the window by clicking the 12-key Numpad Remapper icon at the lower right of the taskbar, including the hidden-icons area if necessary, or by choosing the tray's show-window command. Running the same version's Numpad Remapper.exe or Numpad Remapper.exe --settings again also restores the existing window. Reopening does not change its startup mode or conversion state. To stop conversion, release the keys and select Conversion OFF. To exit, confirm normal release and use Exit App from the tray or settings. The window close button is not complete application exit. If another version is running, the requested version does not start and shows version-switch instructions. Release all keys, turn the old version OFF, confirm release and exit it completely before opening the requested version. 6. Notifications and recovery When an abnormal condition is detected, releasing the app's owned outputs takes priority, and a notice is shown if conversion must stop. If a stop or unconfirmed-release notice appears, do not continue conversion; read the instructions. After returning to the normal desktop, the OS may be unable to confirm that a regular-keyboard key held before the interruption has been released. Conversion then pauses with a notice. In a window where it will not affect your work, press and release the relevant key once. Conversion resumes automatically when the state can be confirmed. If the problem persists, avoid repeating operations and report the circumstances and notice text. 7. Language, keyboard layout and theme The interface offers Japanese, English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, German, French, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese. Without a saved preference, the corresponding OS display language is used; unsupported OS languages fall back to English. Documentation and support are in Japanese and English. The JIS/US keyboard layout is independent of the display language. Your own names and external application names are not translated. Changing the language cancels key capture waiting, while retaining saved and copied assignments. The theme choice applies to the current run. The next startup uses the light theme. 8. Storage, updates, returning to an older version and removal Key settings: %LOCALAPPDATA%\NumpadLeftHandDevice\localization-r14\settings.json Display language: %LOCALAPPDATA%\NumpadLeftHandDevice\localization-r14\display-language.json Diagnostics: %LOCALAPPDATA%\NumpadLeftHandDevice\diagnostics These are separate from the extracted app folder. Versions in different folders share the same data location. Copying the app folder does not create independent settings. Existing settings take priority. Only when they are absent does the app validate and copy supported predecessor settings. It does not skip damaged existing settings to initialize a new store or write back to the predecessor's original file. Before updating: release all keys, turn conversion OFF, confirm normal release and use Exit App. Extract the new version into a separate folder, retaining the old folder, settings and recovery history. Avoid extracting over the old version or running multiple versions together. Back up important settings after complete application exit. To return to an old version, exit completely first, then use Numpad Remapper.exe in its folder. An older version stops if it cannot read the settings format. Do not delete or reset settings on the assumption they are damaged; retain originals and backups and contact support. To remove the app, exit completely and delete its extracted folder. This does not delete user settings, history or diagnostics. Older versions share the data location, so do not delete user data in bulk if you are unsure whether it is needed. Settings are not automatically deleted, reset or restored. 9. Startup problems and support Read the notice and check that the entire ZIP was extracted into a new local folder. If files are missing or changed, use a complete distribution obtained from a trusted authorized source. These instructions do not recommend disabling OS protections or running as administrator. When a startup failure can be recorded, its report is saved at: %LOCALAPPDATA%\NumpadLeftHandDevice\diagnostics\startup-error.txt This distribution is unsigned, so Windows may show a warning. Check where you obtained it and keep OS protection enabled.
